| $BlogItemUrl$>Advantages of Fish Oil Supplements and Other Healthy Oils$BlogItemUrl$> |
By now, almost everyone knows that fish oils are good for you, but do you know specifically why? Before taking any supplements, it is important to know which oils are the best, and what makes them the best. Cold water fish, particularly salmon, sardines, mackerel and tuna, are the best choices for a good dose of omega 3s. Omega 3s are essential fatty acids that cannot be obtained by the body in any other way except through diet. The problem is that many people do not like the taste of fish, or they cannot prepare it for meals because someone in their family dislikes fish. This is where the popular fish oil supplement comes in handy. It is very important to make sure you get omega 3s in your diet. In a world of chemically treated environs, foods and products, omega 3s help protect you from heart disease which is a concern for anyone who eats processed foods and lives in a world with pollutants. Omega 3s are important for reasons other than protection from disease. They can also protect you from mental health issues. It has been well-documented that people whose diets are rich in omega 3s are less prone to depression and anxiety, and have better overall mental health and a more positive outlook on life. The omega 3s found in fish oils are also helpful in lowering bad cholesterol, or LDL, as well as in lowering triglycerides. Believe it or not, by consuming the “good” fats found in fish oil, you can actually lose weight and reduce the amount of “bad” fats that travel through your bloodstream. Again, it is easiest to do this by taking fish oil supplements, because consuming fish as often as would be required to reap the maximum benefits just may not be possible. Another oil that you have probably heard of by now, which is also very beneficial as a supplement, is flaxseed oil. Many people enjoy the taste of flaxseed oil and enjoy the flaxseeds themselves. Flax has a somewhat nutty flavor, far different in taste than the fish oil, and pleasant enough that many people use it as a salad dressing or other flavor-enhancer. It is important to note that flaxseed oil does spoil fairly rapidly, so you must refrigerate any unused portion after opening. If you prefer, you can take flaxseed oil in a pill form rather than consuming the oil itself. Read all directions, for some of these supplements do not require refrigeration. Flax oil contains alpha-linolenic acid, or ALA, which is converted by the body into the two main fatty acids that are also found in fish oil. Therefore, it is a welcomed alternative to those who do not want to supplement with fish oil. This is good for vegetarians also. Flaxseed oils share many of the same benefits and properties as fish oil, but without some of the properties that make it unattractive for some such as the taste, smell, or capsule size. Another fatty acid that has gained in popularity is gamma-linonenic acid, or GLA. This fatty acid may also be supplemented in oil form, and is most commonly purchased as evening primrose oil or borage oil. Many supplement companies do not market it as “GLA”, but that is what you will be getting if you look for borage seed oil or evening primrose oil in your local health food store. GLA is not actually an omega 3 acid, but rather an Omega 6 fatty acid. Some health professionals will warn against supplementing with omega 6 or omega 9 fatty acids, and suggest that you ‘keep it simple’ by simply focusing on the omega 3s. However, this particular fatty acid is an anti-inflammatory and quite beneficial for that reason. Many people find it helpful in treating various auto-immune disorders, as well as arthritis, PMS, and other conditions that stem from inflammation. Further, it has recently been studied as an aid to help stop the growth of certain tumors. If you plan to supplement your omega 6 intake as well as your omega 3s, GLA is your best bet. Although you probably do not need to supplement your omega 9 fatty acids, it is worth mentioning as a possible supplemental to your diet. Most people find that they consume this enough without supplementation, but if your diet is not rich in olive oil already than you may want to do so. Olive oil is the most well-known, and probably the healthiest, natural source of omega 9 fatty acids, but some other oils and prepared salad dressings will contain them also. It is always recommended that you maintain a healthy, balanced diet in order to get your fish oils and other healthful oils. However, due to busy lifestyles and the inability to make certain that we eat what is best for us at every meal, supplementing with at least your omega 3 fish oils and other healthy oils is a great idea. |

| $BlogItemUrl$>What to Consider When Choosing Acai Berry Supplements$BlogItemUrl$> |
Unless you do not read a lot about health and nutrition, by now you know how popular the acai berry has become in the world of supplements. There are many reasons, as discussed below, as to why the acai berry is so wonderful for our bodies, and why daily intake is recommended. The acai berry, in actuality, is not a “berry” at all. It is a fruit, similar in size and appearance to the grape, and it comes from a type of palm tree that grows in Central and South America. While the soft, inner part of the palm, called heart of palm, is often eaten in salads, the fruit portion of the plant is now very popular as a nutritional supplement. It is sold for a multitude of uses, most commonly as a weight loss supplement. The makeup of the acai berry itself is pretty potent. It is comprised of essential fatty acids, potassium, iron, amino acids and a bit of fiber. These ingredients mean that you are able to ingest a multitude of nutritional powerhouses in one little berry supplement. The healing benefits of essential fatty acids cannot be overstated; from fat (obesity) to depression to heart and lung health, essential fatty acids are one of the most important additions to your diet to be made. Potassium and iron are two very critical minerals that the body does not necessarily get enough of without dietary additions. Potassium is important for maintaining blood pressure and other functions of the body and can easily be lost through sweat and urine, while iron plays a critical role in keeping anemia in check. You can use the acai berry in tablet, powder, or juice forms. No matter what the form, though, it is important for you to understand what its properties are and to know why you should or should not take this supplement. If you are using it to lose weight, which is the main reason this is such a popular supplement, you should consider whether you are taking the best steps you can to modify your diet in a healthful manner while exercising appropriately as well. While there is some indication that the acai berry does aid in weight loss efforts, you will benefit from this supplement most if you also eat healthy meals and eliminate junk food, as well as increase your activity. The acai berry has recently been touted as a great antioxidant, also. Certainly, it can be beneficial to add to your supplement regimen for this reason alone. This is a relative newcomer in the world of antioxidants, as previously the most popular antioxidants were the “greens”. Red and purple antioxidants are coming into their own and being recognized as very beneficial as well. You have probably always heard that it is a good idea to eat as many natural green, red and yellow vegetables and fruits as possible. The same holds true for supplements. Although the supplement itself may not be colored like the fruit or vegetable, incorporating the supplement from these multi-colored sources will ensure that you reap the maximum antioxidant benefits in your diet. Along with its antioxidant properties comes the anti-inflammatory and anti-aging benefits. While these go hand-in-hand with the fact that the acai berry is an antioxidant, it is something of great interest to many people who are looking for skin health as well as internal health when they supplement their diet. Some health professionals have extraordinary claims for the acai berry; they say that it promotes sexual well-being, maintains low cholesterol, helps you lose weight, and can give you the antioxidant protection already mentioned. Because of the antioxidant properties, there have even been claims made that the acai berry can help to prevent cancer and certain heart diseases or heart-related health issues. While there is a lot of anecdotal evidence supporting these claims, it is always best to check with your physician or health care practitioner before relying on this supplement to treat or prevent these illnesses. The acai berry may seem too good to be true, but it really is a remarkably efficient and effective supplement for the body. You can find reasonably priced formulas and add longevity and stamina to your life by supplementing with the acai berry. Whether your goals are better heart health, better mental health, healthier looks, or better digestion and internal health, you can help meet them with this supplement. |

| $BlogItemUrl$>Contemplating Detoxification? Not Before Reading This$BlogItemUrl$> |
Think of the last time you took a shower. How well did you clean yourself? Many of us are quite consistent about showering, bathing or washing our hair, but don’t realize that we have done an incomplete job. Cleansing your skin and hair is only a small part of cleansing the body. To maintain good health and hygiene, surely it is the cleansing and purification of the inside of the body that matters most. All of us, no matter how healthy we try to live, accumulate toxins (or poisons produced by living cells or organisms) over time. Toxins may enter our bodies through the food we eat, the water we drink or even the air we breathe. Greater amounts of toxins accumulate in cases of unhealthy food habits, pollution, smoking, alcohol and lack of exercise. If these toxins are not removed, then serious health complications may result. Detoxification Detoxification is the body’s ongoing process of neutralizing and eliminating toxins from the tissues and organs of the body. The liver is the main detoxifying organ. It takes harmful chemicals, toxins and by byproducts of metabolism from the blood stream and alters them into safer substances that the excretory system can eliminate. This process is always happening automatically – we don’t have to think about it. It is natural for the body to be continually cleansing itself. However, when the liver is unable to deal with the excess amount of toxins, these toxins continue to move through the body and cause disruption and damage, before eventually being stored in fat cells, often being stored for years or decades. When this happens, we can experience all sorts of chronic and degenerative conditions. Fortunately, there are some excellent detoxification methods available today. By engaging in a “detoxification program”, we are actively assisting and supporting the body in its own natural cleansing. Detox methods Some people go all out and attend a health treat focused on detoxification. Others undergo a supervised fast or cleansing program by a naturopathic physician. Still others undergo ionic foot detox. The health benefits of negative ions are well known. When water is ionized and split into H+ and OH- ions (and sometimes into H3O+ and H2O2 ions), these ions are able to enter the body through the 4,000 large pores of the feet. Then the circulatory and lymphatic systems transport the ions throughout the body. These ions neutralize oppositely charged toxins in the cells that are normally slow to exit the body. In this way, all the body’s organs can become energized and stimulated to function optimally. The body then rids itself of these toxins through its normal processes of urination, defecation and sweating.
A detox foot spa helps you cleanse the body in a clinic or spa or in the comfort your home. The process takes only half an hour. |
