You may think that gout excludes almost everything good and healthy from your diet. Well, don’t think that way because there are plenty of delicious, nutritious and healthy gout diet foods to eat.
But first, you must know the basic dietary guidelines for gout patients as outlined by the American Medical Association. You can then refer to it when deciding to eat something or not, said guidelines being:
* High levels of complex carbohydrates
* Low levels of protein
* No more than 30% of calories in fat
The ideal gout-oriented diet must be a balanced one composed of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat milk products consumed in moderate quantities.
First on the list of gout diet foods to eat are fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C since it lessens the uric acid levels in the body. You should include red cabbages, potatoes, red bell peppers, celery, tomatoes, tangerines, mandarins and oranges in your diet.
Second, cherries are also good sources of nutrients that lower levels of uric acid. We can mention the goodness of fresh cherries, blackberries, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, purple grapes and other red-blue berries in their natural state.
Third, vegetables are healthy additions to the gout diet foods to eat although we must emphasize that there are vegetables like peas, lentils and legumes that are not good for gout. Instead, we recommend kale, cabbage, parsley and other green leafy vegetables as essential pats of your diet.
Fourth, you must eat complex carbohydrates, too. Your diet will then include whole grain breads, pasta, cereals and rice along with vegetables and fruits with the said macro-nutrient.
Fifth, in addition to drinking plenty of water, we also recommend drinking low-fat to non-fat dairy products. You will then be able to get your protein, the levels of which was affected by the reduction of meat and organ meats from your diet.
